The alignment traversed a number of areas of soft ground and given the tight programme time-line the Leighton Abigroup team sought ways to achieve consolidation for the earthworks within the shortest possible time. An observational method was proposed and Maxwell GeoSystems were tasked with providing the systems to make it happen. Maxwell GeoSystems brought two new data concepts to the project. Firstly, instrument groups in which a number of instruments could be used to define new "virtual" instruments of particular engineering significance. Secondly a series of prediction instruments for tracking performance. By providing this novel approach to the connectivity of project data, Maxwell GeoSystems made a valuable contribution the project which was delivered almost a year ahead of schedule.
